Engine and transmission

Engine and drivetrain repair you can follow step by step

When a car runs rough, slips out of gear or leaves spots on the driveway, we find the cause first and show you the proof. You see photos and a written estimate before any part comes off.

Most engine and transmission jobs are covered by our 24-month / 24,000-mile warranty on parts and labor.

What we handle

From a seeping gasket to a full drivetrain repair

Power train problems rarely fix themselves, and small ones get expensive fast. Here is what we work on most.

Engine repair

Diagnosis and repair of rough running, low power, overheating and noises, from head gaskets to valve cover and mount replacement.

Timing belts and chains

Replacement at the interval your maker recommends, along with the water pump and tensioners that sit behind the belt.

Leaks and misfires

We trace oil, coolant and fuel leaks to the exact seal, and track misfires to a coil, plug, injector or compression issue.

Transmission service and repair

Fluid and filter service, leak repair, solenoid and valve body work, and rebuild or replacement when it is truly needed.

Clutch and drivetrain

Clutch kits, flywheels, axles, CV joints, driveshafts and differential service for front, rear and all-wheel drive.

Fuel pump and delivery

Hard starts, stalling and hesitation traced to the pump, filter, pressure regulator or injectors, then repaired.

Know the signs

Signs it's time to have the engine or transmission checked

Catching a problem early often means a smaller repair. If you notice any of these, book a visit.

  • The check engine light is flashing, or the engine shakes at idle
  • Gears slip, shift late, or the car jerks between gears
  • A burning smell, white exhaust smoke or a sweet coolant odor
  • Oil, red transmission fluid or coolant spots where you park
  • The clutch pedal feels spongy, or the engine revs without speeding up
  • A whine, clunk or vibration that changes with speed

FAQ

Engine and transmission questions

Straight answers on the repairs drivers ask about most.

How do I know if my transmission needs a rebuild or just service?

We check the fluid condition, scan for stored codes and road-test the car. Many slipping or hard-shifting complaints turn out to be fluid, a solenoid or a leak, so we start with the least costly cause and show you the findings.

Is it worth repairing an older engine?

Often, yes. We compare the repair estimate with the car's overall condition and tell you plainly if the numbers do not add up, so you can decide with the full picture.

How often should a timing belt be replaced?

Intervals vary by engine, commonly somewhere between 60,000 and 105,000 miles. We look up your maker's schedule and check the belt's condition at each visit.
