Emissions testing and repair

Pass your emissions test, or find out exactly why you didn't

A failed test or a lit check engine light points to a specific fault. We test your vehicle, trace the cause with live data and repair only what the results call for.

Rules and test requirements differ by area, so bring the notice you received and we will work from it.

What we handle

Testing, diagnosis and the repairs that follow

Emissions testing

A pre-test check of readiness monitors and warning lights, so you know where you stand before an official test.

Failed-test diagnosis

We read the codes and live data, review the test report and find the root cause rather than replacing parts by guesswork.

Catalytic converters

Testing and replacement with the correct converter for your vehicle, plus theft-deterrent shields and clamps that make removal much harder.

Oxygen sensors

Upstream and downstream sensor testing and replacement, which often restores fuel economy as well as emissions readiness.

EGR system repair

Valve cleaning or replacement, passage clean-out and vacuum or electrical repairs that bring NOx levels back down.

Evap leak repair

Smoke testing finds leaks in the fuel vapor system, from a worn gas cap to a cracked hose or a failed purge valve.

Signs it's time for an emissions check

Emissions faults usually announce themselves long before a test is due. Watch for these.

  • The check engine light is on, or stays on after a repair
  • A rotten-egg smell or visible smoke from the exhaust
  • Worse fuel economy or a rough idle
  • A loud rumble after a catalytic converter theft
  • A test notice, or a failed result you do not understand
  • A recent battery or computer reset, which can leave monitors not ready

How we approach it

From failed result to confirmed fix

A clear process keeps repairs focused and your costs predictable.

  1. Review the result

We start with your test report or warning light and note what failed.

  2. Diagnose the cause

Scan data, sensor checks and smoke testing separate a failing part from a symptom of something else.

  3. Approve the repair

You get photos and a written estimate with the part, labor and warranty listed.

  4. Verify and retest

We clear codes, run a drive cycle so the monitors set, and confirm the vehicle is ready to retest.

FAQ

Emissions questions

Answers to what comes up most after a failed test.

Why did my car fail even though the check engine light is off?

The light can be off while readiness monitors are still not set, often after a battery disconnect or a recent code clear. A drive cycle usually fixes that, and we can tell you whether that is the case.

How do I protect my catalytic converter from theft?

A fitted shield or cage over the converter, plus etching your vehicle ID on it, makes it a harder target. We can fit a shield when we replace a converter or at any visit.

Do you handle the official test itself?

We perform pre-test checks and the repairs behind a failed result. Official test requirements vary by area, so ask us which station applies and we will point you the right way.
